Description
My study painting is based on Sir Edwin Henry Landseer’s painting,” Favorites.”
At the time he commissioned from Landseer this portrait of his gray Arabian stallion Selim, his Newfoundland dog Nelson, his King Charles spaniel named Flora, and his peregrine falcons, seen here hooded and ready to be put through their paces at Windsor, the sixteen-year-old Prince George of Cambridge was of considerable dynastic importance.
Sir Edwin Henry Landseer (1802 –1873) was an English painter and sculptor, well known for his paintings of animals – particularly horses, dogs, and stags. However, his best known works are the lion sculptures at the base of Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square.
