60×80 cm, oil on canvas
Walking with my husband on the Makaha beach, we couldn’t help but notice a noisy flock of birds. Five cardinal finches stood in a circle and loud chirping ‘argued’ over a biscuit. One of them grabbed it and tried to fly away with it. In the chase which followed, one bird stole it only to lose it to the next, and it went on and on. Whichever bird didn’t have the biscuit in its beak was loudly chirping.
Inspired by this amusing moment, I decided to capture the scene in my painting … but what could the title be? …there were two teams of different colours ... all craved the loot and wanted to steal it away. The rest was loudly ‘arguing.’ That’s how I named my painting Politicians.
This painting is a humorous snapshot of the universal nature of rivalry, ambition, and the amusing chaos that comes with battles over a “crown”, biscuits, or just a bit of attention.
