Michelangelo Buonarroti – (1475–1564) is an outstanding master of the Italian Renaissance, one of the greatest figures in the fine arts. Although he always considered himself a sculptor, he created enduring and significant works not only in sculpture, but also in painting, architecture, and poetry.
His most famous statue is perhaps the statue of David. It immortalizes David in the moments before his fight with Goliath. The work shows one of the artist's most distinctive traits: it expresses the depicted person's inner tension before action with an apparent external calmness.
My painting captures a detail of the sculpture. It was created using mixed media; artistic plaster, glue, acrylic, and oil paint all played a role in the creation of the piece.
