On October 15, 2021, at 6:00 PM, my master, Kálmán Gasztonyi, opened my exhibition titled „Through Another Eyes” at the Titok Gallery. The exhibition mainly features my symbolist and surrealist paintings.
My master wrote this about me and the exhibition:
„The painting of Ruth Schmidt draws upon the knowledge of the masters of past centuries, addressing 21st-century man by applying their painting techniques. Painted with the utmost professional humility and fantastic precision, her pictures provide a unique aesthetic and visual experience that is unmistakably characteristic of her alone. Her paintings are narrative, they tell a story—thus filling the bare aesthetic experience with human stories and emotions. Ruth's fundamental nature is good cheer, a positive worldview, and humor. Unfortunately, in contemporary art, there is less and less room for humor, even though it is one of the greatest gifts of our lives—provided one has it. Fortunately, the Creator bestowed it upon Ruth in abundance. The representation of divine power also frequently plays a role in her paintings, as her Christian faith is very important to her. Symbolism is perhaps best suited to describe her painting, but surrealism also appears on occasion. In her art, which unfolded after her initial study pieces, we practically find no “plain” still lifes, landscapes, or classically formulated figuration. There is always a little Ruthian twist that transfigures and fills it—thus rendering a supposedly realist picture truly artistic. Ruth's talent, diligence, and determination hold many, many more excellent paintings in store for us.”
