I stumbled upon this cute „story” on the internet, which got me thinking. I decided to paint it. (I used a photo found on the internet as a basis and reworked it).
Here is the story:
Once a child was about to be born, and he said to God:
"They say you are sending me down to Earth tomorrow, but how will I live there, since I am small and helpless?"
God replied:
"Out of all the angels, I chose one for you who will wait for you and watch over you."
"But here in Heaven, I do nothing else but sing and smile.
"I need this to be happy," said the child.
God replied like this:
"Your angel will sing to you every day. You will feel her love, and you will be happy."
"And how will I understand people if I don't understand their language?" asked the child.
"That is easy! Your angel will teach you the most beautiful and sweetest words you will ever hear, and with patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak," God replied.
The child looked up at God and said:
"And what will I do if I want to talk to you?"
God smiled down at the infant and said:
"Your angel will put your hands together and teach you how to pray."
The child continued, slightly sadly:
"I heard that there are bad people on Earth. Who is going to protect me from them?
God hugged the child and replied:
"Your angel will protect you even if it means risking his life."
The child looked dejectedly ahead and said:
"But I always get sad because I cannot see you."
God embraced the child once again:
"Your angel will always speak to you about me, and will show you how you can get back to me, even though I will always be by your side."
Then, although there was great peace in Heaven, earthly sounds could already be heard. The child asked hurriedly:
"My God, if I have to go now, please tell me the name of my angel!"
And then God replied:
"The name of your angel is not important. You will simply call her: Mother!"
